Comparison
Inspack vs Loftware Smartflow
Loftware Smartflow controls approved packaging content; Inspack checks finished artwork against regulations with AI. Compare approach, coverage, and fit.
· 4 min read

Loftware Smartflow and Inspack prevent packaging errors in two different ways. Smartflow, Loftware's artwork management platform, controls the content that goes into artwork: approved phrases, translations, and workflows. Inspack checks the finished artwork itself, using AI to compare it against the regulations of each market, your brand rules, and your briefs.

Two ways to prevent label errors
Smartflow controls the inputs; Inspack checks the output.
Loftware Smartflow | Inspack | |
|---|---|---|
Approach | Stores pre-approved phrases, translations, and product data in Master Datasheets, and locks unapproved content out of projects | Reviews each artwork version with AI against regulations, brand guidelines, briefs, and master labels |
Catches | Wrong or unapproved content entering a project | Errors on the finished artwork, including missing mandatory elements, claims not allowed in a market, and differences from the brief |
Best when | Content is reused across large product portfolios | Artwork must meet different rules in several markets and channels |
Where each tool catches a mistake
Following one artwork from first draft to print shows where each tool steps in.
Stage | Loftware Smartflow | Inspack |
|---|---|---|
Content preparation | Approved phrases and translations are pulled from Master Datasheets | Briefs and master labels are checked for required wording and claims |
Design | Designers work from the approved content | Design extensions check artwork inside Figma, Illustrator, and InDesign |
Review | Reviewers annotate proofs in DaVinci, compare text, preview barcodes, and measure | AI checks every market's rules at once, returning findings with the cited rule and a suggested fix; reviewers annotate and compare versions |
Approval | Templated workflows, eSignatures, and rejection reasons | Approval workflow with owners, reminders, and acceptance of each version |
After approval | Superseded status for outdated files, and an audit trail | Audit trail, PDF review report, and website monitoring |

What happens when a regulation changes?
Smartflow shows where content is used; Inspack updates the rules and re-checks the artwork.
- Smartflow: its Where-Used view shows every project and datasheet that uses a phrase or translation, so your team can find what to update after a regulation changes. Your team decides what the change means for each phrase.
- Inspack: it follows 100+ regulatory sources such as FDA, EPA, and EFSA. When a rule changes, it updates the matching ruleset, dates the change, and re-checks affected content automatically. Legal and regulatory advisors also review the rulesets regularly.

Loftware is also a label printing platform
Loftware's best-known product is enterprise labeling, which is a different job from artwork review. Loftware Cloud prints variable-data labels, such as barcodes, lot numbers, and regulatory labels, from ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics. Inspack doesn't print labels; it reviews the content and design of labels, packaging, and marketing before they go to production.
Security and validation
- Smartflow: SOC 2 certification, eSignatures that support FDA 21 CFR Part 11 approvals, and validation services for regulated industries.
- Inspack: currently undergoing a SOC 2 Type 2 audit. It keeps each client's data in a separate workspace and offers SSO and an optional dedicated environment on Enterprise. Details are on the Inspack trust center.
Pricing and getting started
Loftware does not publish Smartflow pricing; access starts with a sales conversation. Inspack publishes its plans:
- Starter: $99/month for 10 reviews
- Pro: $599/month for 50 reviews with integrations
- Enterprise: custom pricing
Inspack has a 7-day free trial, and a first review takes minutes.

Frequently asked questions
How is Inspack different from Loftware Smartflow?
Smartflow controls approved content and workflows before and during design. Inspack uses AI to check the finished artwork against regulations, brand rules, and briefs, and suggests a fix for each issue.
Does Loftware Smartflow use AI to check labels for compliance?
We did not find AI compliance checking in Loftware's own Smartflow documentation. Smartflow supports compliance through approved content, proofing tools, version control, and audit trails.
Is Loftware labeling software the same as artwork management?
No. Loftware Cloud prints variable-data labels from business systems, while Smartflow manages packaging artwork. Inspack reviews artwork and labels for compliance; it doesn't print labels.
Can Smartflow and Inspack be used together?
Yes. Teams can keep approved content and workflows in Smartflow and use Inspack to check the resulting artwork against each market's regulations before approval. Both offer APIs for connecting systems.
